The standby-power requirement
A UNIQLO store within one of Greater Manchester's largest shopping centres required a dependable standby-power solution for its designated life-safety systems. The generator had to provide the required output during a mains failure while meeting the practical demands of a busy retail environment.
Engineering assessment and generator selection
Before the generator was selected, the FW Power engineering team surveyed the site and completed a detailed assessment of the expected electrical loads, starting currents, step loads, required output and wider system demands.
The assessment confirmed that a 200 kVA Blackwell silent diesel generator was the appropriate solution. Its acoustic enclosure supports quieter operation, while the generator provides dependable backup power when the mains supply is unavailable.
Installation by FW Power
FW Power delivered the specialist installation work required to integrate the Blackwell generator with the site's standby-power arrangements. The completed project combines Blackwell generator reliability with FW Power's survey, system-sizing and installation expertise.
Correct sizing for critical applications
Selecting a generator for life-safety duties involves more than choosing a nominal kVA rating. The connected equipment, starting currents, operating sequence, step-load behaviour and site conditions must all be considered so the generator can perform reliably when it is needed most.
