How often should a standby diesel generator be serviced?+
The correct interval depends on the engine manufacturer, calendar time, operating hours, environment, fuel quality and how critical the site is. Many standby systems need scheduled servicing at least annually, but higher-risk or harsher applications may require more frequent inspections. We confirm the suitable interval after reviewing the generator and site.
What is included in a generator maintenance contract?+
A Blackwell service agreement can include scheduled inspections, oil and filter changes, battery and charger checks, coolant and heater checks, controller and alarm testing, ATS checks, condition reports, load bank test planning and quotations for remedial work. The final scope is tailored to the installed equipment and operational requirement.
Why does a generator need load bank testing?+
Routine no-load running confirms that an engine starts, but it does not prove how the complete generator performs under electrical load. Load bank testing helps verify output, cooling, voltage and frequency stability, and can identify fuel, airflow or light-load operating problems before an emergency occurs.
Can you commission a generator after another contractor installs it?+
Yes, subject to an installation review and an agreed scope. The generator, electrical connections, fuel system, exhaust, ventilation, earthing, controls and transfer arrangements must be ready and compliant before final functional testing and handover can be completed.
Do you provide generator fault-finding call-outs?+
Yes. We support fault investigation for no-start conditions, shutdowns, controller alarms, unstable voltage or frequency, failure to transfer and other engine, alternator or control-system problems. Availability and response arrangements are confirmed when the fault and site details are received.
What information is needed for a generator service quotation?+
